INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher begins the lesson by distributing PT3 revision books for English to the students. They are told to complete three questions in the class during the two periods. Before they begin, the teacher explains what to do for each question.
b) While the students complete the questions in the class, the teacher conducts the trial oral test by calling individual students to be tested. This is done by getting each student to answer 4 questions on a given topic. At the end of the assessment, the student is awarded a mark based on a given marking band.
c) Before the end of the lesson, the teacher reminds the students to hand in their workbooks to be checked.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The teacher managed to assess 10 students for the trial oral test. However, for the written exercise, most of the students completed the third question only which is writing a postcard. The teacher has yet to check the students’ work.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher gives the students a simple exercise where they are to fill in columns with the correct singular and plural nouns as well as plural and singular verbs. Words are given in a box and they are to do this on their own.
b) At the end of the time, they are called to write down their answers. The teacher checks their answers and corrects any errors.
c) Before the end of the lesson, the teacher stresses on the differences between singular and plural nouns as well as singular and plural nouns.
REFLECTION
This lesson was 80% completed. Not all of the students were competent in filling in the table with the correct answers. Some were still unsure which words are nouns and verbs. They were also confused with plural and singular verbs. The teacher could not check their work in the class. So it will be continued on Tuesday lesson.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher revises what the students have done during Monday’s lesson before giving another exercise. She asks them what they have done by asking them what singular and plural nouns are as well as singular and plural verbs.
b) Then, she gives them a simple exercise where they are to use words given in a box to fill in blanks in sentences. They are to identify the best answer to fill in the blanks.
c) They are given some time to do this on their own. At the end of this time, the teacher calls some students to write down their answers. She checks their work and explains any mistakes.
d) Before the lesson ends, the teacher explains to the students that the verbs are action verbs. They will learn how to use verbs to-be such as is, are, was and were on Wednesday.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The teacher discussed the Monday’s exercise in the class and found out that most of the students were not confident in identifying singular and plural verbs. After looking at the table, the students were able to do the second exercise on their own. Most of the students who were asked to write their answers did well. Only 1 student gave the wrong answer.

a) The teacher explains the do’s and the don’ts for the oral assessment before beginning. Students are to answer three or four questions.
b) Then, the teacher begins with the first person by selecting students randomly. The student is given 2 minutes to study a picture before the teacher asks 3 or 4 questions. The students are to answer each question using a full sentence which is grammar-free and also to pronounce each word correctly as well as clearly.
c) Once the student finishes his or her session, the teacher awards marks. This process is repeated with other students.
d) Before the lesson ends, the teacher reminds the students to be ready for another oral test on Tuesday and Thursday next week.
REFLECTION
This lesson was not completed. The teacher could not conduct the mock oral test as she has sore throat and was not able to speak clearly to the students. It will be held on Thursday.

a) The teacher explains what the students will be doing in the class. They will still focus on subject verb-agreement. But they will rewrite sentences from plural to singular forms and also from singular to plural. They will also be given more exercises on using the correct form of verbs given in brackets.
b) She gives them 2 types of exercises on the board. They are to take these down into their exercise books and are given 20 minutes to do these on their own.
c) At the end of this time, the teacher calls students to write down the correct answers on the board. The teacher checks and discusses their work.
d) Before the end of this lesson, the teacher points out the importance of identifying the plural or singular form of the noun before using the correct form of verbs.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The students could complete this exercise on their own.

a) The teacher writes down two sample postcards for the two exercises that the students have done for their revision. The students are to take these down into their exercise books.
b) Then, the teacher explains why those sample postcards are in the A-band by pointing out the sentence structures as well as vocabulary that is used in the postcards.
b) Before the end of this lesson, the teacher reminds the students to bring their novel, “Around the world in 80 days” for Thursday’s lesson.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The two sample short essays were given. The teacher could not explain further about the samples as she was still having a bad sore throat. She will do the explanation next week.

b) The teacher adds to these examples by giving them a list of uncountable nouns as well as the do’s and the don’ts of using uncountable nouns
c) Then, she gives them two types of exercises. The first is ticking / or x to indicate nouns that are uncountable. The second is filling in blanks with suitable uncountable nouns from a box.
d) The students are given 20 minutes to complete the exercises. Then, the teacher checks their work by getting students to write down the answers for the questions. She also checks their work and corrects if there are any errors.
e) Before the end of the lesson, the teacher reminds the students to hand in their books on Friday to be checked.
REFLECTION
This lesson was not completed. The reason was the first two periods were used to organise the ‘Hari Raya’ lunch at the Hall. This lesson will be postponed to Thursday.

c) Next, she gives them a simple exercise where they are to fill in blanks with either ‘is’ or ‘are’. She gives them 15 minutes to do this on their own.
d) At the end of the time, she calls some students to write down their answers on the board. Then, she checks their anwers and discusses their errors if there are any.
e) Next, the teacher moves on to the next topic where they will also be taught on how to use ‘was’ and ‘were’. She explains that ‘was’ is the past tense for ‘is’ while ‘were’ is the past tense for ‘are’.
f) She also gives them some examples on the board and gets them to read the sentences aloud.
g) Next, she gives them a simple exercise where they are to fill in blanks with either ‘is’ or ‘are’. She gives them 15 minutes to do this on their own.
h) At the end of the time, she calls some students to write down their answers on the board. Then, she checks their anwers and discusses their errors if there are any.
i) Before the lesson ends, the teacher asks the students to identify when to use ‘is’, ‘are’, ‘was’ and ‘were’.
REFLECTION
This lesson was partially completed. The teacher was only able to teach the students about ‘is’ and ‘are’. The lesson on ‘was’ and ‘were’ will be taught on another day. The students’ comprehension was nearly 90% based on the given exercises.

The novel: Around The World In 80 Days – messages of the novel

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
a) write messages of the novel on their own words

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher asks the students what they have learned from the novel. She listens to students’ responses. If they don’t have much to say about messages or moral values in the novel, the teacher will list down some of them on the board. She wants them to identify one example or evidence from the novel to support each message.
b) After this, the teacher tells them to take down the question for discussion. She explains what the question requires and asks them to choose three best messages which they will write about later on for the essay. This is done by looking at messages with the strongest evidence or example from the novel.
c) Next, the teacher tells the students that they are going to prepare a mind map before writing the essay. The essay will contain all of the three messages as the main ideas. For each main idea, there will be an elaboration and for an example or evidence from the novel. The teacher illustrates what an elaboration for the main idea will look like. She writes it down and encourages the students to think of two more elaborations for the other two main ideas.
d) Once this is done, the teacher draws their attention to write one evidence briefly under each elaboration.
e) Then, the students are assisted in writing the introduction and the second paragraph for the first main idea. The rest of the essay is to be completed by the students at home.
f) Before the lesson ends, the teacher reminds the students to hand in their books on Monday next week to be checked.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The teacher found out that students were not focused on the class discussion and they were unable to provide strong elaborations on their own for the mind map. This exercise is assigned as homework which the students will complete at home.

a) The teacher explains the do’s and don’ts of the reading test before she begins the assessment. Once the students are given some work to do in their work book, the teacher calls individual students to read a text for about two to three minutes before awarding them marks.
b) This is done in the class during the double periods in order to provide the students some exposure before the real English Oral Test on the 13th of August.
REFLECTION
This lesson was not completed. The teacher has decided to not strain her voice but cancelling this mock oral test. Instead, she played a CD which demonstrates how a reading and the listening tests will be conducted next week. She also explained the do’s and the don’ts of the tests. Students listened attentively.
