a)
The teacher asks the students what they have learned from the novel. She
listens to students’ responses. If they don’t have much to say about messages
or moral values in the novel, the teacher will list down some of them on the
board. She wants them to identify one example or evidence from the novel to
support each message.
b)
After this, the teacher tells them to take down the question for discussion.
She explains what the question requires and asks them to choose three best
messages which they will write about later on for the essay. This is done by
looking at messages with the strongest evidence or example from the novel.
c)
Next, the teacher tells the students that they are going to prepare a mind
map before writing the essay. The essay will contain all of the three
messages as the main ideas. For each main idea, there will be an elaboration
and for an example or evidence from the novel. The teacher illustrates what
an elaboration for the main idea will look like. She writes it down and
encourages the students to think of two more elaborations for the other two
main ideas.
d)
Once this is done, the teacher draws their attention to write one evidence
briefly under each elaboration.
e)
Then, the students are assisted in writing the introduction and the second
paragraph for the first main idea. The rest of the essay is to be completed
by the students at home.
f)
Before the lesson ends, the teacher reminds the students to hand in their
books on Monday next week to be checked.
|
REFLECTION
|
This
lesson was completed. The teacher found out that students were not focused on
the class discussion and they were unable to provide strong elaborations on
