INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher distributes worksheets that contain an exercise on writing a recount. She tells them to study the picture for 1 minute.
b) Then, she asks them to describe the picture by identifying who the people are, what they do and the setting of the picture. The students are expected to say that they see a few firemen and people trying to put out a fire that is burning a house.
c) Next, she asks them to identify the key words, the tense that should be used and some useful vocabulary that they can use to write the recount. The teacher writes down useful information on the board for the students to see. After that, she draws a simple layout for the essay on the board in order to get students to see the paragraphs and the different points that should exist in each one of them.
d) Once the students know what to do, the teacher gets them to start writing meaningful sentences for the introduction, the body of content and the conclusion.
e) Before the lesson ends, the students take down this sample into their books and to read the recount again at home before they sit for their exam on Wednesday.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The teacher observed that more than 90% of the students did not know how to describe an event with a given picture. The teacher had to illustrate everything on the board for them including giving them very short and simple sentences using simple past tense, which they have learned in previous lessons.
