INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher gets the students to take out their test papers and to look at the question that requires them to write a 50-word message. The message is to encourage a friend to take part in an essay-writing competition and to include relevant details.
b) The teacher gets the students to brainstorm ways to greet a person using straight-forward simple language. She writes down their responses and chooses the best but the most simple greeting that the students will be able to use in future messages.
c) Then, she asks them to give her examples of sentences in the Malay language which intend to invite a friend to take part in a competition. She listens to their suggestions and shows how to translate such sentences on the board.
d) Next, she teaches them how to scan for ideas in the reading text and to transfer them to their message. She also shows them how to rewrite those ideas into simpler sentences that the students can write on their own.
e) She also gets them to end the short message using sentences that the teacher has taught in the past. She writes down their suggestions and makes suitable modifications for the message.
f) Before the class ends, the teacher gets the students to take down this sample essay into their exercise books.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The students could only give the greeting and the conclusion. They struggled to rewrite identified ideas from the text into simpler sentences on their own. The teacher had to intervene and gave them some suitable examples.

At the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
a) construct simple sentences that contain four or five words

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher distributes pictures that show people doing various activities. She asks them to identify those activities and gets them to construct five sentences for each of the picture.
b) She gives them 10 minutes to do this on their own. She also gives examples to help them get started.
c) At the end of this time, the teacher calls some students to write their sentences on the board.
d) The teacher checks the sentences and rewrites them if there are any errors. Before the class ends, the teacher reminds the students to bring their Literature booklets for a lesson on a poem.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. However, the lesson was very slow as the students have forgotten how to construct the simple sentences. The teacher has to illustrate on the board for the students to remember how to do the task.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher begins the lesson by asking the students if they have ever been blamed to do unpleasant things such as breaking glasses, leaving muddy footprints on the floor or leaving the door ajar. She asks them what they will say if they are blamed for doing something that they never do.
b) Next, the teacher explains to the class that they will learn about how an interesting character in the poem entitled, “Mr. Nobody”. She recites the poem in the class and lets the students listen.
c) Then, she explains what the poem means stanza by stanza. She asks them to identify the characters of Mr. Nobody based on her explanantion. She listens to their responses and writes down the characteristics.
d) After that, she tells the students to take down notes on this poem.
e) Before the lesson ends, the teacher asks the students to identify the theme of this poem.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. However, the teacher has forgotten to get the students learn about the theme of the poem. She will add this to the notes for the students on Tuesday. It was found out that the students could identify who Mr. Nobody is based on the poem and related this character to how people behave at home.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher returns the students’ test paper. She reads out the answers while the students check for any errors in the calculation of marks.
b) Next, the teacher explains why students made errors in the various sections related to error identification, graphic organizer, comprehension questions and short message. She gives examples or samples how the answers are written.
c) Before the lesson ends, the teacher reminds the students to bring their writing books for the next lesson.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The teacher could only discuss questions on error identification, graphic organizer and the comprehension questions. The rest of the paper will be discussed again in the class in coming lessons.

a) The teacher revises the previously learned poem by asking the students to give the meaning of the stanzas in the poem. She also gets them to identify the characters of Mr. Nobody based on the teacher’s explanation.
b) Next, the teacher gives some comprehension questions which the students try to answer on their own.
c) At the end of this individual work, the students are to read out their answers before the teacher reads out the correct answers.
d) Before the lesson ends, the teacher gets the students to explain the meaning of the poem using their own words.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The students will attempt the comprehension questions on their own at home. With some extra time left after the end of this lesson, the teacher decided to start reading the short story, “Flipping Fantastic” in the class and introduced the main characters – Tristan and James.

a) The teacher continues giving the students’ a sample essay for the recount which was already done before the school holidays began.
b) Next, the teacher discusses the question on the fifty-word message with the students. She directs their attention on the text from where they are to glean information for the message. She asks them to identify relevant information about the essay-writing competition and the benefits of taking part in the competition.
c) The teacher gives them a sample essay to be taken down.
d) Before the lesson ends, the teacher reminds the students to bring their Literature books and the novel for a lesson on Thursday.
REFLECTION
This lesson was not fully completed. The teacher could only give the students a continuation of the sample essay on the recount. The 50-word message will be given next week on Monday.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
a) The teacher tells the students that the lesson will be about a short story entitled, “Flipping Fantastic”. She also explains that it will be about two teenagers who have to go through a problem of choosing whether to go separate ways or stay together as they are twin brothers.
b) The teacher reads the story out loud in the class. She pauses at paragraphs that contain new words, phrases or the main ideas.
c) Before the end of this lesson, the teacher asks the students to identify the problem that the twin brothers are facing as well as their opinion of the school play.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The teacher completed the short story in the class on this day. The students were able to identify the two main characters and the problems that the twin brothers face. They also remembered the different personalities of these two brothers.

Then, with some extra time, she started reading two pages of the short story entitled, “Flipping Fantastic” in the class. The students were introduced to the two main characters in the story.

a) The teacher asks the students what they think of the essay question on the recount that they had written in the Trial PT3 English examination paper. She listened to their opinions.
b) Next, she asks them to list down the words that they have used in their essays and to compare with a list from the teacher. She asks them to identify how the robber looks like based on the given picture.
c) After that, the students are given a sample recount on the board. The teacher tells them take down this sample into their exercise books.
d) Before the lesson ends, the teacher asks the students to identify compound and complex sentences that the teacher uses in the sample essay.
REFLECTION
This lesson was not completed. The students sat for their Psychometric Assessment from 1.00 until 6.10 pm. The teacher was there to facilitate the test and to collect answer scripts. This lesson will be postponed to next week.

a) The teacher comments on the students’ previous literature essay writing exercise on an interesting event from the novel. She asks them again to identify the three main ideas for this question. She also wants them to identify the evidence from the novel to support each of the main ideas.
b) Once the discussion finishes, the teacher gives them a sample essay which the students will have to take down into their exercise books.
c) Once this is done, the teacher will give another revision question on the most interesting setting in the novel. She assigns this exercise as individual assignment to be done at home.
d) Before the end of this lesson, the teacher reminds the students to bring their novel on Thursday for a lesson on literature.
REFLECTION
This lesson was completed. The students were given another literature revision question which they will complete at home. They are to return their exercise books on Monday next week.
